If you have been reading my blog lately, you know that I have been exploring even more avenues for healthy and homeopathic options to improve my overall wellness. This past week I went for a Hyperbaric oxygen therapy session as I recently experienced a minor health ailment and had heard that this form of therapy aids and speeds in healing. I have gone before but hadn’t been treated in some time. There is a fantastic center in Santa Monica and honestly, while some may find the machine a little space-age, I totally zone out and relax. If you haven’t heard of this type of treatment, let me give you the science behind it. According to the Mayo Clinic:
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized room or tube. Your body’s tissues need an adequate supply of oxygen to function. When tissue is injured, it requires even more oxygen to survive. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy increases the amount of oxygen your blood can carry. An increase in blood oxygen temporarily restores normal levels of blood gases and tissue function to promote healing and fight infection.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is used to treat several medical conditions. And medical institutions use it in different ways.
More than just relaxing, in the hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber, apparently the air pressure is exponentially higher than normal air. The theory behind this treatment is that your lungs are able to take in pure oxygen and more than at normal pressure. This oxygen is then distributed throughout the blood which consequently promotes healing. Again, I love science and always do my research but personally, I notice an increased feeling of recovery when my joints are sore, better energy levels, and an overall feeling of good health. I am planning to continue so I’ll keep you posted. Feel free to follow me on Instagram and Twitter (vail bloom) and share your experiences!
